Pain and your beliefs

Okay, so we all suffer aches and pains, some more than others. Recently I’ve been dealing with the pain of arthritis. I noticed that when I was in the Rockies, and to be sure it’s a drier climate there than to where I currently live, 90% of my pain left me within hours. So did all of my anxiety, which believing as I do that mountains give us great strength along with natural settings, I was absorbing whole-heartedly. This no doubt was improving my overall constitution. At any rate, my discomfort with joint pain over the last while has given me some insight into the chronic pain that many people struggle with. While I do not have that battle to conquer in this lifetime (my work is stemmed largely in the recovery of emotional pain), I can certainly appreciate the challenges and frustrations that ailing physical conditions present to millions. So, how to conquer constant, throbbing, burning, incessantly annoying, uncomfortable, miserable, wretched pain?

While I am not one to rush to medications for anything, I recognize that they do have their purpose and sometimes even as devout spiritual beings we have to resort to medicinal aids. When we work with the Divine and live a thoroughly spiritual existence, it does not mean that we have to cut ourselves off from all things not natural, though I personally believe in as much of a non-intervention approach as possible and natural remedies to prevent or treat ailments.

I also am very curious about the idea of thought connected to pain. The best work I have found for this is Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life, published originally in 1984. I recall reading about Louise Hay that initially no one was interested in what she had to say; hence she began her own publishing company (Hay House). We all know where that got her! In You Can Heal Your Life there is a table of data that describes corresponding physical conditions with beliefs, along with positive affirmations. Now, whether one believes or not in whether the link between thought and illness is valid, it’s worth considering we may possibly be harbouring within us the very belief described that corresponds to the aches and pains we are feeling, like it or not.

While most of us never truly want to hear that we may be harbouring anything negative within, the truth is we all do now and then. Negativity rubs off on us from our personal and professional environments and if you are sensitive to vibration and energy, it’s very easy to pick up the nasty energy of others. If we are feeling pressured to do something before we are ready or someone else’s ideas feel threatening we immediately begin to react defensively and form thoughts that fuel our vulnerable and usually negative feelings.

It’s worth considering we may have something else going on that is contributing to more pain than we need to be feeling. While it may be that not all pain is rooted in negative beliefs there are those who believe it is. I think that our aches and pains are definitely there to tell us something about ourselves. I believe we can have 100% healthy minds and bodies if that is what we desire. I do believe our thoughts control our physical condition and come far ahead of the effects that manifest as sickness, disease and discomforts. I believe that it’s okay to experience pain if we want to, and sometimes we want to, but we must take responsibility for this choice.

According to You Can Heal Your Life arthritis relates to feeling unloved, resentment and criticism. Joint pain corresponds to life changes and ease of movement (going with the flow). While you can isolate areas of pain to work specifically on beliefs related to one issue, I’d suggest that general conditions represent our foundational thoughts while more pain in one area may well relate to a specific experience and/or time.

As for me, I’m going to rethink how many people love and support me and that all of the changes I’m facing are in fact going to proceed flawlessly with the help of the Divine.
