Moving with the Flow

Sometimes moving with the flow requires a sudden change in plans. It’s not always easy to make an abrupt “about face” especially in certain circumstances. When plans go awry it’s easy to let stress get the better of you, making it difficult to think on your feet. However, I believe that all things happen for a reason. Moving with the flow is important so that all elements of “whatever is to be” can come together. Many of these we can’t see while we’re in the thick of change.

I’m still in Greece while writing this wisdom. I faced an abrupt change in plans yesterday when the evening ferry that was to take me and my husband to our next destination was cancelled, leaving us with two choices: 1) stranded on the only island the ferry was travelling to or 2) taking our chances finding new accommodation where we were. Though anxious to get the next leg of our holiday started we decided to stay put (I don’t like too many wild adventures anymore). As it turned out this was a good idea. After giving up our rented house just hours earlier only to find we now had to scramble to find a last minute room was stressful. However, we found a place that blessed us with a head-on view of the Caldera that certainly made our change in plans worthwhile. While snacking on nuts, fruit and wine (not everything has to be luxurious or complicated in life), we enjoyed one more night viewing the glorious pallet of sunset colours for which Santorini is known, soaking up the healing effects of the volcanic body of water. Thank you angels!

Today, we are on a 5 hour sailing vessel rather than the 2 hour super jet we were to have taken last night. While we are not where we wanted to be at the house we rented on the sea, it is there waiting for us when we do arrive. Meanwhile, we are making good use of the new travel day. On the up side we won’t be arriving at our rental house in the dark. We are stopping at 3 islands before our own that we otherwise wouldn’t have seen. The boat isn`t rolling so I won`t get sea sick and there is plenty to do on board.

Moving with the flow requires that we give up control of what we planned would happen. It is the ultimate reminder of how we must choose to live in the moment and let life be an adventure. It teaches us how to communicate and work effectively together. Above all, it requires that we see the silver lining in the newness and forget about what was “supposed to be”. I didn’t consciously ask the angels to sort things out for us while we had to make snap decisions booking new ferry tickets, reserving the car for another night and finding new accommodation. However, they made sure that everything flowed beautifully (they are an intrinsic part of my life and always step in when I need urgent help).

When you find you need help with a sudden change, ask the angels to guide you. If you’re not quite sure what decision to make, ask the angels to show you loud and clear. Listen to your gut instincts. Don’t give yourself time to grind the many possibilities into more uncertainty. Choose the best one that feels right for the moment, even if it’s not ideal. Enjoy the moments because they probably won’t happen in the same way ever again! Thank the angels!
