Motivation

Ever feel lack of motivation? Perhaps we all do. I was recently discussing with a family member how intense this incarnation has been for me. While I have a great sense of humour, the overarching personality type has been one of great seriousness, generally moving at a frantic pace. While I have done much to curb the frenzy that gradually snuck in again after the deepest of my grief thawed, I have turned my thoughts now to modifying the more serious aspect of my nature. Not being used to frequently displaying my more light-hearted side, I haven’t been sure how to begin the transformation, other than to decide to have more fun and let this fun shine through!

Motivation plays a key role in how we go about deciding what we want. While I practice and teach the art of manifestation starting from ground zero (where you feel like you’ve been beaten to a pulp and can’t go on) focused on heart intention, truly successful manifestation cannot occur unless there is motivation for the desire. It is not enough to simply wish for change and hope it will come about amidst any lethargy we may be feeling. There must be a shift within; a modicum of excitement that signals to the universe we are ready for what we say we want. This shift must trigger the attraction of energy composed of the same vibration and frequency as the desire we are intending on manifesting.

I have noticed that some of the big changes I manifest in my life come weeks, months or even a year or more after I initially decide what I want (many come just as suddenly too). In this period of “waiting, I sometimes lose some of my motivation due to the frustrations or uncertainty that what I’m doing is really part of the purpose. Sunshine makes me feel better, a supportive e-mail, a book sold, an invitation to speak. However, I understand that it’s in the smallest of details that we must continue to feel motivated; not only in the biggest moments of news or events unfolding.

I don’t have the discipline of continuously staying motivated down pat yet, but what I am finding helpful is tossing some of the seriousness by taking each day as it comes with a good dose of fun, along with a sense of adventure. For me, having fun represents allowing myself to become somewhat vulnerable to the “play” aspect of life (not all of us remember how to play well after childhood). Some of us actually need to be taught how to play again with confidence and purpose.

If you’re caught up in the seriousness of life, I encourage you to explore those things that will lift some of the heaviness surrounding you that comes with responsibility, obligation and routine. Be willing to try something new, change your routine, and adopt a different attitude to the chores at hand. If it’s a boring job you’re dealing with flip your thinking to one of service, knowing that when it’s time for you to move on you will. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need to reduce some of your responsibilities so that you can pepper your life with more fun. Take a chance. I am travelling soon for a holiday. One of my goals is to play with dolphins. I may even put a picture on the web!
